Congratulations to SABA GB's "Know Your Rights!" Graduates!

A Message from "Know Your Rights!" Co-Chairs Pallavi Chintapalli and Manisha Bhatt:
On June 9, 2011, SABA GB proudly honored its inaugural class of "Know Your Rights!" participants and faculty members in a graduation ceremony conducted at the Lecture Hall of the Waltham Public Library. The Honorable Justice Ralph Gants of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and co-chair of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission presented the Keynote Address. Justice Gants highlighted the importance of access to justice initiatives such as "Know Your Rights!". Justice Gants expressed his appreciation of SABA GB's efforts and has since assisted SABA GB in identifying additional participants for subsequent years of the "Know Your Rights!" program. Following Justice Gants, President of India Circle for Caring and "Know Your Rights!" 2010-2011 participant, Girish Mehta, remarked that he has not only retained the information learned in these classes, but he has already put them to use within the community. He encouraged SABA GB to continue this important program and challenged SABA GB to expand this initiative so that it reaches far beyond the boundaries of Massachusetts. We concluded the evening with a reception of appetizers and celebratory cakes to commemorate this momentous occasion for the program graduates and SABA GB. The evening's ceremony was recorded and will be broadcast by Waltham Public Access Television at a date yet to be announced.

Congratulations to the 2010-2011 "Know Your Rights!" Graduates

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Join SABA GB's Know Your Rights Planning Committee

The graduation ceremony for SABA GB's inaugural "Know Your Rights!" class is coming up this June. We are looking for a few volunteers from our general membership to help us plan this event. The "Know Your Rights!" program is a SABA GB collaboration with attorneys from a variety of organizations and firms in Boston, including Greater Boston Legal Services, the Attorney General's office, MCAD, and OSHA to provide a comprehensive legal education program to South Asian community leaders about their basic legal rights in the areas of employment, discrimination, consumer protection, elder care, family law, immigration, health, disability and criminal law. SABA GB is proud to recognize the current class participants and demonstrate the significance of developing strong relations with our South Asian community through legal education.

Please contact Pallavi Chintapalli (Pallavi.Chintapalli@State.MA.US) or Manisha Bhatt (MBhatt@gbls.org) if you are interested in being a part of this special event.
